Latest social media footage captures a burning plane on the bottom, suspected to be the A-50 Mainstay airborne early warning and management (AEW&C) jet, but the precise circumstances stay unclear. It’s unsure whether or not the Ukrainian navy or Russian air protection techniques induced the downing.

In line with Russian sources, the A-50 was introduced down by pleasant fireplace over the Sea of Azov. Nonetheless, there’s hypothesis that technical malfunction may have contributed to the crash.

The Beriev A-50, also referred to as the Mainstay, performs an important position as Russia’s AEW&C plane, using the Ilyushin Il-76 platform. The lack of such plane for the Russians is critical.

This incident doubtlessly marks the second A-50 downing since Russia initiated its aggression in opposition to Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

In January 2023, one other A-50 was shot down within the Sea of Azov, together with an Il-22 that managed to land with important injury after being hit by a missile.
